CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Join Michael Polscer for an engaging and informative master class exploring the essential principles of healthy vocal technique. 

Participants will explore foundational elements of healthy singing, including:

  • The anatomy involved in singing and how the voice functions
  • The critical role of breath support and breath management
  • Anatomy of the mouth and its impact on resonance and articulation
  • Key concepts and techniques that promote healthy vocal production
  • A suggested approach to learning and preparing a piece of music

Throughout the masterclass, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how vocal mechanics and the body work together to create confident and healthy singing. The session will conclude with Q&A, providing attendees the opportunity to ask questions.

Whether you are a beginning singer, experienced performer or simply interested in understanding the voice, this masterclass offers valuable tools and practical techniques that can be immediately applied to your singing.

INSTRUCTOR BIO:

Tenor Michael Polscer is a versatile artist equally at home performing opera, musical theatre and concert repertoire.  He has sung with Krakow Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Augusta Opera, Tri-Cities Opera, New England Lyric Operetta, Regina Opera, the Shrewsbury Chorale, and as a guest artist with Muhlenberg College.  His roles include Frederic in Pirates of Penzance, Gaston in La Traviata, Monostatos in Magic Flute, Alexander in New Moon, Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus, Basilio/Curzio in The Marriage of Figaro, Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi and Paris in Romeo et Juliette.  

In musical theatre, Mr. Polscer has played Charlie in Brigadoon, Chino in West Side Story, Neville in "Drood", Dick in Dames at Sea, B.J. Gibson in 1940's Radio Hour, Lamar in Godspell, Paul in A Chorus Line and the title role in Pippin.  He also created the title role of Charlie in Ravenswood, a musical based on the soap opera "Dark Shadows".

Concert and oratorio appearances include Handel’s Messiah, and L’Allegro, Il Penseroso, ed il Moderato, Haydn’s Creation, Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb and St. Nicholas Cantata, Bach’s B minor Mass, Vaughan-Williams' Mass in G minor, Schubert's Masses in G Major and Ab Major, Gounod's Messe Solennelle (St. Cecilia), Mozart’s Requiem and the Cantor in Kolot Min Hashoah (Voices from the Holocaust). He has frequently appeared in recital of composer David Eddleman’s music at Symphony Space in New York City, and can be heard as Paul Baumer in the opera recording, All Quiet on the Western Front with the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mr. Polscer received a BFA in Musical Theater from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, an MM in Voice from Binghamton University and a Professional Studies Diploma in Voice Performance with a specialization in Opera from the Mannes College of Music. He has taught voice at Binghamton University and DeSales University, in addition to his private studio. He has appeared as Tenor soloist at several churches in New York City, including Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. He is currently Tenor soloist at Trinity Episcopal and Old Swedes Churches in Wilmington, DE.
