IRISH MUSIC

Wednesday, April 23

Are you enchanted by Irish Music?  Have you always secretly longed to sing Danny Boy in the land where the tune was inspired?  This Masterclass is for you!  Join choral conductor Stephen Carroll to learn more about Irish Music from the special angle of a trained singer, choral conductor, and tour guide!

Stephen Carroll is a conductor, entrepreneur and speaker from Ireland, currently living in New York City. He founded All Voices Heard after curating multiple life-changing projects for large companies' DE&I programs in the Silicon Docks of Dublin, Ireland. Since then, he has presented his work across Europe, the US, and Asia, earning a reputation for fusing music with social impact through innovative and inclusive programs.

Stephen is passionate about community building through music, both nationally and internationally. In 2022, he became the youngest conductor to ever co-produce a TV show, with a Christmas special that aired during peak hours on Irish television. His experience in broadcasting extends to appearances on the History Channel’s "Vikings" among other productions of note. His creative leadership also includes collaborations with renowned international ensembles, such as the Philharmonic Chorus of Tokyo, where he conducted a memorable exchange concert during a tour in Japan.

As the founder and artistic director of the Claddagh Chamber Choir, Stephen has led the ensemble on international tours, domestic concert series, and recording projects. Under his leadership, the choir has become one of Ireland’s leading non-professional groups, offering singers opportunities to grow both artistically and professionally. The choir’s Conductor-in-Residence program and mentorship initiatives provide members with high-level professional development, from 1-on-1 coaching to participating in international events like the ACDA conference in Los Angeles.

Stephen’s work is deeply rooted in making music accessible to all. His program, All Voices Heard, is an innovative choral workshop that integrates group singing with sign language and Braille, promoting inclusion and accessibility. This initiative has attracted the attention of major companies, including Microsoft, where it has been incorporated into their DE&I initiatives. Through his work, Stephen aims to foster a sense of belonging and connection, using music as a tool for social change.

Looking ahead, Stephen is set to expand his global reach with projects like the Wild Atlantic Choral Festival, which will bring hundreds of singers from around the world to Ireland. He continues to push the boundaries of what music can achieve, bridging cultures and communities while leaving a lasting impact on the international stage.
